The Raw Material

As a natural breathing material, wood will always change with its environment, so every step of the manufacturing and design process shows consideration for the natural movement of the wood.

Each piece of wood is chosen with an expert eye for it’s stability, consistency, rich colour and grain patterns, before being cut and planed. This is done by an expert craftsman using wood of exceptionally high quality.

Nick at work

Nick James ensures quality through every stage of the process from selection of timber to applying the final layer of finish.

The materials and methods used to create a piece of furniture add to the beauty of the piece.

Intelligent design must harness the strengths of the materials used, to create appealing, functional and enduring forms. Only experience, and a close working relationship with the raw material ensure this be achieved, creating furniture which will last a life time and more.

Solid wood is a life resistant material; solid wood can withstand and become more beautiful with the rigours of daily life and the demands and stresses involved in it, be it teeth marks on the edge of a table or the gentle patina created with years of use.

Solid wood gives furniture a continually renewable surface. In generations to come, the piece can always be professionally refinished. No matter how deep you go you can always find another layer of beautiful solid wood.

Exceptionally strong wood to wood connections, such as dovetails and mortise and tenon joints provide superior, deep unbreakable bonds for furniture, with astounding structural stability.
