Sometimes a specific home and lifestyle call for a specific piece of furniture. Every piece of Nick James' Furniture is designed and hand crafted upon order, by Nick in his workshop at the Mushroom Works.

Commissioning a piece of furniture can be an exciting and rewarding process. At all stages of the process you will be involved in the development of the piece and are invited to take an active role to tailor the piece to your exact needs and requirements.

How to commission a piece of furniture:

Initial Design Sketches

The Brief

A brief is drawn up, usually after an initial visit and meeting where important details are discussed. The purpose, size, surroundings, materials, style, the budget and deadline are agreed upon.

The Design

Designs will be drawn up for discussion in accordance with the brief. These will take the form of hand sketches, perspective drawings or three dimensional computer models, and will form the basis of a discussion leading to any necessary modifications that need to be taken into account.

Nick then fine tunes the design to perfectly suit your individual requirements.

Once the design has been finalised detailed construction drawings are prepared for your approval and an agreement is made, which will allow work to be scheduled.

The Order

At this point, a deposit of 50% is payable and once received, work can be started on the piece. You are welcome to visit the workshop and view your work in progress at anytime. When the work is completed, arrangements are made for delivery, at which stage the balance of payment is due. Nick is happy to advise you on how to look after and care for your furniture
